The ‘Relaxation Reponse’

The antidote to stress is known as the “Relaxation Response”, which is triggered by the parasympathetic branch of the nervous system. This action sends messages to the body to relax, slow down. and take a deep breath; saying in effect, “Its time for rest and healing.”

There are a number of ways to promote this response, such as exercise, meditation, listening to calming music and of course, therapeutic massage.

As massage creates a relaxation response, muscle tension is released, circulation is increased and sensory receptors are activated. Areas that have been “cut off” by accumulated stress can begin to feel once again. Massage teaches us to tune in to body signals and soothes us at the same time.

Shirodhara Treatment

Shirodhara is an ancient Ayurvedic treatment, over 2000 years old, in which warm sesame oil is poured in a continuous stream across the forehead. Therapeutic benefits: Regular Shirodhara enhances blood circulation to the brain, improves memory, nourishes hair and scalp, assists in providing sound sleep and calms the body and mind. Shirodhara is one of the most effective treatments for reducing stress and nervous tension. This is a 2 hour treatment beginning with a full body massage followed by the Shirodhara treatment.

Cupping

Cupping is a powerful pain-relieving, detoxifying, and energy-building modality used by people all over the world to maintain their health. A vast number of conditions respond positively from cupping. It is the oldest and most globally practiced medical procedure in human history and remains popular throughout most of the world.

Myofascial Release for Trauma and Pain

Myofascial Release for trauma is a gentle, relaxing, and effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle, sustained pressure into the myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. Tight fascia restricts the movement of muscle, causing tightness and pain. Trauma is locked in tight fascia and can remain there for years until released. Trauma can be a result of falls, head injury, car accidents, emotional abuse, shock, or continual stress.

Pain is often reduced or resolved entirely, and emotions connected to the trauma can instantly be released. I specialize in trauma work and I have certifications in Myofascial Release for trauma.

Pregnancy Massage

For pregnancy massage, I incorporate a prego pillow so you can lay face down comfortably. Benefits of pregnancy massage include reduced back and joint pain, reduced edema, improved circulation, less stress and anxiety, and better sleep!

“Only the person who is relaxed can create, and to that mind ideas flow like lightning.”
