It’s Spring! Time for Massage Therapy, Cleansing, and The Rainbow Diet

Spring is here and I am so excited for the preparation for planting fresh vegetables in the garden, fresh air, more exercise, and of course… sun!

Spring is the best time to do a cleanse after the cold and somewhat stagnant time of winter.

It is best to start with an herbal cleanse of the colon, skin brushing to release toxins and dead skin, saunas to sweat out toxins, and massage therapy for added circulation and movement of lymph fluid through the lymph system. Massage therapy is the number one best therapy for this purpose.

Did you know that your lymphatic system is connected to digestion as well as your immune system? A stagnant lymphatic system can mean a stagnant liver and all of that can contribute to weight gain and holding onto toxins.

In Ayurveda, the science of healing from India, it’s recommended to massage your body before your daily bath with sesame oil to keep in the body’s natural oils as it pulls toxins from the skin to be washed away in the shower.

When it comes to food, follow the natural desire to eat warmer soups and stews, root vegetables, and heavier foods during the cold spells, and switch to spinach salads and lighter fare like veggie broth soups and cooked veggies during the days of spring weather.

Following the rainbow diet (one food from each color of the rainbow) daily will insure you have a wide array of nutrients and polyphenols from your plant-based diet.

Polyphenols come from fruits and vegetables and protect against cancer, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and osteoporosis. These compounds are potent antioxidants and anti-inflammatory. Polyphenols preserve brain activity and may defend against Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. They help flush dangerous levels of metals from the body.

Yep, mom was right…eat your fruits and veggies!!
